Food, drink, history and culture, plus no end of fun and whatnot. That’s what’s on offer and that’s what we’ll give you. It’s all included in the ticket price!
My name’s Steph and I own Chester on a Plate, a brand new Food and Drink Tour business in the heart of the city. In every way, I love Chester. Not only is it beautiful and humming with life, there are also no end of hidden food and drink gems if you take the time to trawl the streets, rows and Roman walls, with more popping up all the time. It’s exciting being immersed in Chester’s history and surrounded by food for days! You really can’t move for it; you’ve just got to get into it and look.
We are an independent business and one of the main aims, certainly for me, when setting up Chester on a Plate Tours was to work with, support and promote other independent food and drink establishments in Chester. They love what they’re serving because it’s theirs, it’s their creation and their passion, and that always makes things taste better! Another massively important reason to have independents onboard with the tour was that I wanted the people themselves to tell groups of tour guests about what they are eating and drinking. Not just that, I wanted them to give a bit of background about themselves and the business. This was important for me and definitely makes the whole experience more intimate and interesting. And you don’t just have to listen to me talking for 4+ hours, exceptional though that is!
If you’re not 100% on what a Food Tour is, worry not, I’m going to tell you. The basic premise of our tour is that you have a local, experienced (glamourous, intriguing…list goes on) food tour guide and are taken to some of Chester’s most interesting, most delicious and often the most tucked away food and drink venues. We take you to some genuinely superb establishments for a taste of their food and beverages. We aren’t giving you a small amount of food on the tour, that would be wrong, you’re here to eat and there’s plenty to get stuck into. I felt as though a mixture of individual portions, sharing platters and snacks was the way forward along with drinks tastings, and with the places we’ve picked you can’t go wrong.
This is also a walking tour, and it works well that way as you’re able to walk off each part of the food journey nicely! You get to see all the fabulous sights of the city, all Chester’s architecture and history laid out in front of you, as well as hearing a few stories and facts along the way. It isn’t a huge distance, about 5k, and we take it easy! But it seems a shame to be in a location like Chester, voted ‘The World’s Prettiest City’ in 2023 (true fact) and not enjoy everything it has to offer. Food, drink, culture, the whole shebang.
If groups are bigger than 10-12 on the tour, then I feel as though people don’t get as much out of it as they might. It’s great watching people chatting and getting to know each other on the tour, and it’s not as easy in huge groups. To properly guide a tour around Chester you don’t want loads of people, it’s like herding cats and it would irritate you and the venues! Plus, food can take a lot longer to come out and the drink tastings and talks would never end! This is more personal and gives me a great opportunity to talk to everyone and make sure they’re having an amazing day out!
If you are curious now you’ve got an idea what we do, then have a look at the website www.chesteronaplatetours.co.uk and maybe even go crazy and book yourself onto one of the tours! I guarantee it’ll be something different!
