Food lover’s spoiled by Chester’s best Independents
What makes a food tour based around Chester’s independent food scene unforgettable? It’s not just the dishes – it’s the people behind them, and Cheshire foodies are finding this out. Every stop on our food tour tells a tale, and every bite has a backstory of passion, tradition, and a lot of local love. If you’re a serious foodie, then why wouldn’t you want to hear from the makers at Chester’s best independents? It’s a window into the journey of real chefs and restranteurs.
In this blog, the Chester eateries we love are getting a shout out. Our food tour has become an extra special experience thanks to them. Here’s a taste of how we’re pulling back the curtain and offering a small insight into our food heroes; you wouldn’t get to listen to their wonderful stories just by booking a meal. Without further waffle, here’s the faces (and flavours!) that are shaking up Chester’s food scene.
Dabba – Culinary creativity in Cheshire’s capital city
From the glory of owning and running Hanky Panky’s Pancakes for over a decade, the hottest pancake spot in Chester, Rekha and Stephen launched Dabba and brought a love of southern Indian cuisine right to the heart of the city. The Dabba experience lies not just in their spectacular, home cooked dishes. Beautiful artwork dominates this unique dining space. More importantly, the majority is painted by Stephen or Rekha and is overwhelmingly of friends and family. This personal touch is what gives Dabba such heart. The incredible food served here transports diners, but more than that, they’re experiencing a sense of being at home amongst friends. Overwhelmingly, up there as one of Chester’s best independents. And storytellers!
Greenhouse – Being different is never wrong
Rufus court, tucked away down Northgate street is fast becoming a hotspot for foodies. You don’t go to April Kirk’s Greenhouse – one of Chester’s most exceptional chefs – to have a meal; you go for the journey. April’s European tapas and street food have taken on an exceptional twist. A successful reinterpretation of Patatas Bravas is an exciting thing for some. As Edyta Szewczak, superb sommelier and front of house, says, ‘If we took it off the menu we’d be egged’. Customer strength of feeling here tells it’s own story! Fast getting a reputation as one of Chester’s finest independent restaurants, the tradition of tapas is only the beginning of Greenhouse’s journey. Exciting things are afoot in Rufus Court. Time to move on, but all will be revealed in the coming weeks Chester food lovers…
Pastry Pedaleur – A Cheshire Foodie’s paradise
Formey Marketer for Vogue Mumbai to Pâtissiere at the Racecourse and prestigious Grosvenor Hotel, Steph Lobo’s foodie story is mindblowing. The latest location, however, to benefit from her talents is New Market Chester. Steph has made cakes for the Duke of Westminster’s wedding and found fame on Channel 4’s The Next Big Thing (!); Pastry Pedaleur’s founder has a lot going on. We love her for it.
In addition, ‘Bounty of the County’, Steph’s brainchild designed for Chester on a Plate tours, has been making waves in the foodie world. Steph was poster girl for Cheshire Day showcasing our Cheshire Cheesecake; testament to how good dessert is on the tour. Dessert you can only try with us! Very few tour guests walk away from Pastry Pedaleur without a macaron or 2; locals have been heard saying, ‘It’s hard to ignore a beautiful, big cruffin’.
Want to meet these (and many more) fantastic Vendors, taste their food and hear their edible stories? This is the very thing we give you (on a plate…) during your Chester Food Tour. In short, book on here.
