Our Food and Drink Walking Tours – the perfect day out
Started in late July 2024, Chester on a Plate was born through a love for Chester’s history and the blend of cuisines in the city. Global or British, essentially, a desire to see local produce shine drives our food tour journey. Introducing people to how astonishingly good the food made by independent businesses are in Chester is our main ethos. Continually researching and discovering exciting new venues means tours stay fresh and helps to support Chester’s food industry. Mind-blowing dishes don’t need to be posh – just exploding with flovour and full of passion. Offering guests an array of inspiring independent-led food experiences is what we aim for…see here!
About us – A culinary journey.
Chester on a Plate is my food adventure. My names’s Steph and my desire for Chester to become a foodie destination as well as a tourist hotspot for it’s history and culture fuelled my food and drink tour plan. Chester has long been visited for it’s breathtakingly beautiful scenery and historical significance, however mouthwatering meals and locally made drinks fill the streets and rows. Artisan produce is something I have been involved with for over 20 years as a successful artisan producer and deli owner. However, ‘Food tour guide’ has been my job title for years now, running tours in Manchester. This is undoubtedly the best job EVER. It’s fair to say food is what I live for!
Food as an inspiration.
One of the reasons I am so attracted to culinary pursuits is in relation to my health. Renal failure at 19 meant that, in between kidney transplants (which I was lucky to receive), I spent years on dialysis. Believe me, the diet is boring and the meals? SO unbelievably boring and restrictive! I’ve had a kidney transplant for nearly 6 years, and I’m even more of a wanna be gastranome. I make the most of every opportunity to taste and sample different cuisines.
People come along to taste delicious snacks, drink unique beverages, and basically have a chat and a laugh. Additionally, exploring Chester is something we already know people love therefore the two things are perfectly blended. Food lovers will relish this very different day out. I hope to see you soon!
Culture
Chester is a culturally rich city full of life! In Grosvenor Park, we boast the finest example of Victorian parks in the UK. From here wander down to enjoy the Groves Promenade alongside the historical River Dee.
The museums, the Roman Amphitheatre, award winning markets, and regular festivals exist alongside each other adding to Chester’s vibrant culture.
History
Chester sits on top of a Roman fort founded in AD68. Our city was last to fall to William the Conqueror and took 5 months to surrender after King Charles’s army were beaten during the Civil War.
A beautiful mish mash of Roman and Medieval, Norman and Saxon, Victorian and Tudor architecture greets tourists as the walls wind around the ancient Cathedral, not to mention the oldest racecourse in the UK.
Food and Drink
Chester’s food and drink scene is exciting and diverse. Fantastic independents are introducing diverse food cultures and superb eateries to the city, as well as local delicacies and artisan produce.
Increasingly, fantastic bars and specialist shops are showcasing the best Chester-made alcohol. What a time to be alive! (if you’re into food and drink).
