Culturally rich and bursting with character, the city takes pride in its past. It boasts Grosvenor Park, the finest example of Victorian parks in the UK. The Groves Promenade alongside the River Dee remain from the 1800s, whilst original Tudor buildings can be found near the world’s oldest racecourse.

The museums and art, the Roman Amphitheatre, award winning markets, and regular festivals blend perfectly and add to Chester’s vibrant culture.

    History

If your’re walking around Chester it’s on top of a Roman fort founded in AD68. We were the last city to fall to William the Conqueror, and after that held out months after King Charles’s army were beaten during the Civil War. The Cathedral, saved from Henry the 8ths dissolution of the abbeys, is nearly 1000 years old.

A beautiful mish mash of both Roman and Medieval, Saxon and Norman, Tudor and Victorian architecture greets tourists in Chester.
